
Concelex, in partnership with Bog’Art – leading construction companies in Romania – has been selected by Nuclearelectrica to carry out complex works at the dry storage facility (DICA) at Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. The contract is worth 213.7 million lei and covers the construction of 6 spent fuel storage modules and a high-capacity gantry crane.

The new contract signed with Nuclearelectrica covers the construction of DICA modules 18 to 23 and their equipping with spent fuel storage canisters and related components, installation and fencing works, as well as the design, manufacturing, installation and testing of a gantry crane.

Following our involvement in the works to change the purpose of the existing structures on the Unit 5 site — from those intended for a nuclear power unit to those serving as useful support facilities for the operating lifetime of Units 1 and 2 and the future Units 3 and 4 of Cernavodă NPP — this new project marks a natural step in strengthening Bog’Art’s commitment to supporting critical investments for the energy sector, alongside strong partners, on an ambitious schedule and with responsibility toward the community”, said Sorin Greu, General Manager, Bog’Art.
Works begin this month and will be carried out in stages over a 10-year period. The first module, no. 18, is scheduled to be completed by December 2026. The modules are built using MACSTOR 400 technology, which offers superior storage security and more efficient use of DICA’s capacity.
The expansion of the dry storage facility at Cernavodă NPP comes in the context of the re-technologization project for Cernavodă Unit 1, which will extend its operating lifetime by an additional operating cycle (30 years), and the Units 3 and 4 project, both of which require additional storage capacity.
